Enhancing the leadership skills of URA senior staff through management and supervision training
VCCI’s Business Training Officer Irene Titek recently completed a 3 day intensive training with Utilities Regulatory Authority on ‘Leadership and Management Skills’. A total of five managers and two senior officers attended the training from 4th to 6th of November 2019, held at the Chamber’s training room.
Aspects of the training were focused on working through and understanding what makes an effective leader, the importance of good people management and what approaches can be applied to staff supervision to bring out the best in teams. Job descriptions for each participant were used as a basis for discussion to discover what the expectations were for each role in relation to leadership and management which assisted in better understanding of the importance the role good leadership plays in management positions.
The training also included interactive discussions on how to improve staff performance when there is behavioral or attitude issue within the workplace. The understanding of different personality types and how to best work with them will enable participants to manage their staff and customer relationships more effectively. Basic skills in coaching and counselling were also covered.
Feedback from URA training participants included:
‘This training has helped me to understand my role better as a Manager and how to deal with my staff’
‘The most interesting aspect of the training was that it was focused on the objective and was facilitated in the manner that I as a Manager can reflect upon stimulating ideas for management improvements in the way I understand my role’
All participants who completed their training were awarded a Statement of Completion certificate and a sense of great achievement.
