How the Air Vanuatu crisis has affected our Industry sectors

Dear members,

As you will be aware VCCI performed a survey by request of the Vanuatu Government to gauge the effects of the Air Vanuatu crisis on all Industry sectors. The results are in, please find the full report here (click here to view in PDF format).

Top line findings (overall):

  • 378 businesses across all industry sectors were surveyed
  • 92% of respondents reported being affected by the ongoing Air Vanuatu crisis
  • 70% reported a minimum of 30% drop in turn over for same period year on year
  • Most affected business categories were: accommodation and restaurants, tour operators, transport, retail and real estate.
  • 91% of accommodation providers reported a drop in occupancy rates in 2024, with over 50% of respondents reporting they are experiencing less than 50% occupancy for same period last year (over a third – 34% – have reported less than 25% occupancy rate year on year)
  • 88% of tour operators reported a drop in bookings for same period, with 46% of respondents reporting less that 50% bookings for same period.

This report has been shared with Government and we look forward to revisiting discussions with relevant Ministries on a support package to keep people in jobs during these challenging times.
