The Vanuatu Chamber of Commerce and Industry Council Elections 2020
On Tuesday 30 June 2020 the Vanuatu Chamber of Commerce and Industry will be holding its Annual General Meeting. At this meeting there will be a total of eight (8) seats on the Council available for members to fill.

The Council is comprised of 16 members of the private sector, experienced in managing their own businesses and dedicated to advancing their industry sectors. By serving on the Council you will be able contribute to the strategic direction of the VCCI. Recognized for your contributions in the business community, becoming a Council member will enable you to support VCCI in its mission to develop and support economic growth for all business types in Vanuatu.
The Council is comprised of 16 elected positions, each serving two-year terms. Elected Council members serve as individuals; however, to be nominated for and serve on the Council, you must be a member of the association for the sector you represent, if such an association exists.
Council Composition
The Council is made up of:
• one individual engaged in agriculture nominated by the elected members of the Council of the Capital Chamber;
• one individual nominated by the elected members of the Capital Chamber Council from female nominees whose names are put forward by any group or groups representing women in Vanuatu;
• 14 individuals elected to represent the following sectors of trade, commerce and industry:
o 1 representative of the manufacturing industry
o 1 representative of the construction industry
o 2 representatives of the tourism industry
o 1 representative of the shipping industry
o 1 representative of the land transport industry
o 1 representative of the air transport industry
o 2 representatives of the financial and commercial services industry
o 1 representative of the utilities industry
o 2 representatives of small businesses
o 2 representatives of larger businesses
Positions on the Council for election in 2020
The Council is looking to fill the following positions at this year’s Annual General Meeting.
o 1 representative of the manufacturing industry
o 1 representative of the tourism industry
o 2 representative of small businesses
o 1 representative of larger businesses
o 1 representative of the land transport industry
o 1 representative of the air transport industry
o 1 representative of the construction industry
Nominations
Any individual holding a valid business license can be nominated as a candidate for the Council. Nominees are required to be supported by two individuals in their industry sector. Individuals should be nominated for their experience, personal integrity and commitment, not solely for their social standing or business nor political affiliation.

Nomination forms must be completed and presented to VCCI the Friday before the AGM being the 26 June 2020.

Voting
Voting ballots will be issued to members at the AGM once they have completed the registration process (which includes the presentation of a copy of a current business license). Please note as per the CCIV Act CAP 236, only members holding a valid business license in the same category as the nominee can vote for the sector representative nominees.
Voting by proxy
Voting by proxy is possible by using proxy forms available from the VCCI office or downloaded can be downloaded below. Proxy votes must be received before AGM commences.
Election of new Council members
The number of candidates, equal to the number of vacant positions, receiving the highest number of votes of members in attendance at the Annual General Meeting 2020 shall join the Council.
