Meet your Council Member for Tourism, Mr. Greg Pechan

Greg Pechan is the Co-founder and Owner of The Havannah Vanuatu, an award-winning boutique resort for adults. In 2024, The Havannah Vanuatu was honored in Trip Advisor’s Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best awards for the South Pacific region, including Australia and New Zealand. Greg and his wife, Liz, embarked on this journey in 2009, starting with just six rooms and a restaurant. Reflecting on the early years, Greg acknowledges the initial challenges in defining their unique offering.

Over time, the resort has flourished, expanding to 17 Villas, despite facing significant challenges such as severe tropical cyclones, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the current Air Vanuatu situation. Throughout these trials, Greg remains immensely proud of the positive impact The Havannah Vanuatu has made in the community. The resort provides skilled employment opportunities to over fifty local employees and supports a value chain that benefits local farmers, produce growers, tour operators, and community development programs.

As a dedicated member of the Council of the Vanuatu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), Greg is passionate about fostering Vanuatu’s economic growth and sustainable development. He believes the private sector plays a crucial role in this mission. Currently, Greg is focused on three main areas:

1. Enhancing Vanuatu’s international and domestic air connectivity through positive collaboration among all stakeholders.

2. Addressing the skills shortages in Vanuatu and providing employment opportunities and training for our youth

3. Improving infrastructure and services.

Greg joined VCCI during the COVID-19 pandemic, a period that underscored the importance of unity and collaboration between the private sector and the government. Together, they worked to provide essential services to the nation. Greg is optimistic about Vanuatu’s future and is committed to contributing to the country’s prosperity through his work with the Vanuatu Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
