Business Support Workshops run by the VCCI Team to help Businesses on Malekula Island

Malekula Island has great business opportunities and is rich with resources that make it a great place for agri-businesses, local production of Vanuatu made products and other industries to flourish and grow.  The Vanuatu Chamber of commerce and Industry recognizes the importance of supporting these businesses with skills that will help them become more resilient with strengthened business practices.

Selected businesses were invited to a 3-day workshop that focused on Basic Money Management that incorporated budgeting, recording and pricing of products and services. On the second day, the cohort went through a business planning session and finally on the last day the cohort went through with a business continuity planning session that provided the businesses with resources that will enable them to make their own business continuity plans in times when business operations maybe interrupted due to unavoidable circumstances, natural or man-made disasters.

Business Manager, Mr. Dansen Uran, who manages the Lakatoro Consumers Cooperative, which is one of Vanuatu’s most successful cooperatives mentioned in his speech during an appreciation ceremony after the three days, on how helpful the workshops have been especially for a large business like the one he manages with 700 members benefiting from it. He made a special emphasis on the business continuity planning workshop that gave him the necessary skills and knowledge on actions that the business can carry out to prepare for difficult times that that business may unexpectedly fall into due to natural or manmade disasters.

A few small-scale business owners, through the feedback forms, mentioned how grateful they were for the opportunity to attend the workshop on basic money management and to learn the skills necessary to help them calculate the correct price for their services and products and the right way to keep records and manage their money. VCCI would like to continue providing relevant support through out the country as the business community grows and expands. Informal businesses are encouraged to register and become formal businesses to avail of the membership benefits such as the afore mentioned workshops.
